It is with great pleasure that we dive into one of our favorite home renovation projects of 2023. We had the opportunity to work on an 1850s farmhouse in Richmond, and are excited to share the our experience in a remodel that not only breathed new life into a home in poor condition but also seamlessly blended the charm of the past with the convenience of modern living.
This project exemplifies our commitment to excellence in home repair and renovation, showcasing the expertise and dedication that define JPA Services. Join us as we unfold the details of this renovation room by room.
For many Vermonters, the kitchen is the heart of the home, so that's exactly where we'll begin.
Here's what the kitchen looked like before we began.

We knew right away that this large kitchen had a ton of opportunity. The main items we aimed to update included:
Replace the discolored, chipped peel and stick vinyl flooring
Remove the mismatched cabinets
Update the appliances
Patch the sheetrock and add a fresh coat of paint
Add lighting (believe it or not, this kitchen had no lights!)
Change the radiator covers
Add new countertops
And more that we discovered along the way
Here are a few after photos.

The new kitchen has ample storage in white cabinets on two separate walls. The cabinets have black knobs that match the black countertops and the black accents on the stainless steel appliances.
To brighten the space, we added several lighting sources. We were sure to carefully place lights above important work surfaces such as the stove and sink. We also added a LED panel light in the center of the room to illuminate the whole space or highlight a kitchen table in the future.
The walls and ceiling are painted Ibis White from Sherwin Williams. Ibis White is a nice, bright white with a subtle touch of brown that adds a coziness to the space. We kept the original wainscoting and painted it pure white for a subtle contrast and a nice pairing with the cabinets.
Another way we modernized the space was by adding a tall backsplash above the counters. The subway-inspired tiles are the Jeffrey Court Blanco Rustico White Glossy Ceramic Wall Tile found out Home Depot. These textured tiles have a gray tint that have a handcrafted appeal.
Lastly, we can't forget about the floor transformation. The chipped vinyl was replaced by birch hardwood floors. We took extra steps to ensure that the floors were level before installing the floors, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome.
Stay tuned for more updates on our Richmond house renovation from 2023.
